Martha Jane Terwilliger and Gideon Mutchler.  Their only child Herbert standing behind them.
Martha Jane Terwilliger and her husband Gideon Mutchler moved to Arkansas  from Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania along with her brother William Kaylor Terwilliger and his family.  Gideon was Martha Jane's (she was called Mat by the family)second husband, her first husband had been killed when he fell down an elevator shaft, presumably on a construction site.  In the 1850 census WT Erasmus was listed with the occupation of "Brickmaker".  They had two children, Emma Catherine and Matilda.  It is not clear how or by whom these children were raised.  Emma is later found in Arkansas as is Matilda.  But they don't appear on any of the census schedules. Emma is buried next to her mother in Fort Smith, Arkansas.  Gideon and Martha lived in the Booneville, Arkansas area for many years.  They later moved to Fort Smith, where Martha died in 1912. After her death Gideon moved back to Booneville and is buried there.
Martha J. Mutchler, 79 years old and the wife of G. B. Mutchler died at the family home, 816 S. 22nd St at 5 Saturday afternoon.  Funeral to be held at the residence Sunday, by Rev. Dr. F. F. Gibson of the Baptist Church, followed by interrment at Oak Cemetery.  Besides her husband she is survived by  a son Herbert Mutchler of Booneville.  Death was caused by the infirmities of age.
